Roger was elected to Waltham Forest Council in 1990 and was leader of the opposition from 1994 to 1998.
Born in Lancashire in 1964, Roger Evans moved to London in 1987 and was elected to Waltham Forest council in 1990. He became the youngest ever leader of the Conservative group in 1994 – a post he held for 4 years. Having worked for the Royal Mail in various roles for 10 years, Roger funded himself through a law degree, being called to The Bar in 1997. He is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was a legal advisor to the IT recruitment company Spring.com until his election to the London Assembly.
Roger is a member of both Havering Council and the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation Board. He advises women-2-win, a group dedicated to increasing the number of female Conservative Members of Parliament.
His responsibilities in the London Assembly include:
- Conservatives spokesman on transport.
- Deputy Chair of the Environment Committee.
- Member of the Transport Committee.
- Member of the Business Management and Appointments Committee.
- Chair of the Flooding Scrutiny Committee.
